You are whole, resourceful, and ultimately know what’s best for you - I am here to help remind you.

My style is flexible and iterative, with a focus on following what’s alive and what needs are present. Let’s throw an agenda out the window if it’s not what is needed.

Regardless of the context of your business, there are power dynamics at play because of the larger systems of oppression our businesses operate within. You can expect me to put race, gender, sexual orientation, class, and ability on the table and center how these factors intersect to inform who benefits, who is burdened, and who has access to resources.

1-ON-1 STRATEGY SESSIONS

CONSISTENT 1-ON-1 SUPPORT

You bring your goals, questions, ideas, and what keeps you up at night. I bring a blend of coaching, facilitation, people strategy, and business planning skills and experiences. Together we dig into your fears and aspirations and co-create action plans together. Need accountability? I got you.

What is it? One-hour sessions on a monthly or bi-monthly basis - fly solo or tag team with a business partner or co-conspirator

What do I get? Space to process and dream. Clarity, focus, peace of mind. A partner to hold you accountable to your goals.

STRATEGY SPRINTS

FACILITATED PLANNING SESSIONS

Facilitated and customized strategy sessions that bring your team together to create a roadmap, set timelines, and clarify roles. Great for annual or quarterly business planning, strategic plan refreshes, project kickoffs, and starting new ventures.

What is it? 1) Planning call 2) 1-2 sessions (2 hours each) depending on goals and team size 3) Debrief session

What do I get? High-level strategic plan, implementation tools

Who is it for? Individual and teams who need to align on a shared vision and direction and decide on the action steps for getting there.

Price: Starts at $1,250

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT TRAINING SERIES

CUSTOMIZED PEOPLE MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT

Good managers are made, not born. Like any other technical skill, managing people is a unique skill set that needs to be nurtured and developed.

Change doesn’t happen overnight. This in-house, customized series combines a mix of training and 1-on-1 support over the course of 4-6 months to be responsive to the unique needs of your organization, support integrated growth, and foster lasting behavior change.

What is it? Monthly training session on core management skills, 1:1 sessions for each manager to synthesize learning, and monthly group coaching sessions to make learning applicable and actionable.

What do I get? Skill-building customized to your team's needs, individualized support, training materials, individual manager development plans, recommendations for continued group learning and development

Who is it for? People managers responsible for the performance of other team members. Cohorts are a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 8.

Price: Starts at $7,000, varies based on team size and series goals

Hi, I'm Serena, the founder of Rootspace Consulting.

I am a connector, facilitator, and creative strategist. My focus is on helping individuals and groups transform themselves and their relationships through the spaces and containers created to hold work.

The oldest of three children, facilitation is in my bones. From organizing my 7th grade class’ talent show performance, to starting a discussion group in college, to launching a coworking office in my early 20’s, I have always felt called to initiate in ways that bring people together. I am shaped by the rolling hills and lush forests of rural Pennsylvania, where I learned the art of gathering from elder mentors, peer experimentation, and organizing community art projects.

Over the past decade, I have consulted hundreds of employees and organizations on how to work better together. While I have witnessed tremendous transformation, joy, and respect, I have also seen many people harmed, depleted, and stressed out by their workplaces, or by running a business.

I do this work because I don't think people should be miserable at work, let alone be harmed by an environment where we spend so much of our time and emotional energy. I like to dream about what would be possible if businesses and workplaces weren’t extractive, and actually provided us with the capacity to invest in our relationships, in our interests and passions, and in the collective care of our communities. If this sounds like a future you would like to build, I look forward to dreaming and scheming with you.

When not consulting, you can find me organizing with Southerners on New Ground Richmond (SONG), playing pickup with @rvaqueersoccer, going to jazz shows, sharing poetry at open mics, or hosting a potluck. My favorite words are vision, murmuration, and intention (you will probably hear me say them often, don’t say I didn’t warn you). I live in Richmond, VA with my plants.
